dc.description.abstract	In the first chapter we give a historical survey. In the second one, the mean value theorem is presented with some other results. The third chapter is concerned with some applications of the mean value theorem, and a recent article entitled "The very mean value theorem", by Jonn Holbrook and Sung Soo Kim, The mathematical Intelligencer, Springer-Verlag, New York, volume 25, Number 1, 2003. In the fourth chapter, the didactic aspect of the mean value problem is studied.	en_US
